Lindsey Graham Laughs as Herschel Walker Responds to Abortion Allegations

Georgia Republican Senate candidate Herschel Walker dismissed new allegations that he paid for a former girlfriend to have an abortion, joking that he "didn't kill JKF either."

A few steps away, Lindsey Graham—there to support him—chuckled at Walker's comment comparing the abortion allegations against him to conspiracy theories around the assassination of President John F. Kennedy.

"I've already told people that this is a lie," the Trump-endorsed candidate said at a campaign stop on Wednesday. "I also want to let you know that I didn't kill JFK either. And right now, Sen. Warnock, they got crushed at that debate, and now the Democrats will do and say whatever they can to win this seat. But they don't know Herschel Walker [...] I'm going to win this seat."

A clip from the event shows Walker walking away from the podium smiling, as a question by a journalist asking whether he could unequivocally deny he had never paid for an abortion remains unanswered.

Graham followed Walker onto the podium, saying the attacks on the former football star were like the allegations of sexual misconduct leveled at Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh during his confirmation process. Kavanaugh denied all allegations against him.

"I've seen this movie before, folks. I remember the Kavanaugh story line really well," Graham said. "So here's the game plan, Herschel. Get a celebrity lawyer from California [...] to come out and make a wild accusation right before it's time to make a decision about who should be on the Supreme Court—or who should be in the Senate."

A scandal has arisen from the abortion allegations made against Walker, who has been vocal about his opposition to abortion rights during his campaign, likening terminating a pregnancy to murder. He said he opposes abortion in all cases, including rape and incest.

The woman who made the new allegation came forward anonymously as "Jane Doe" in a call with reporters on Wednesday, saying that Walker pressured her to have an abortion and paid for the procedure in 1993.

"Herschel Walker is a hypocrite and he's not fit to be a U.S. senator," the woman said, adding that she voted for Trump in the past two presidential elections.

"The reason I am here today is because he has publicly taken the position that he is 'about life' and against abortion under any circumstances when, in fact, he pressured me to have an abortion and personally ensured that it occurred by driving me to the clinic and paying for it," she told reporters.

The woman, who said she had an affair with Walker in the 1980s and 1990s, had several notes, recordings and receipts that she said proved the relationship between the two.

This is the second time Walker, who has made banning abortions a focus of his campaign, stands accused by a former girlfriend of having paid for an abortion. He denied the first claim too.

The Georgia Senate race is currently a tie with no clear leader, according to FiveThirtyEight's latest poll, which gives Walker a 49 in 100 chance of winning and his Democratic rival Raphael Warnock a 51 in 100 chance of victory.
