Woman Shares 7 Steps for the 'Ultimate Solo Mom Night In'

Parenting is often referred to as the hardest job in the world, and downtime can be a vital resource. So there's no wonder one mom's video of a dreamy night in has gone viral.

Sari Diskin, a mom in Michigan who uses the handle @saridiskin on TikTok, shared her guide to the ''ultimate solo mom night in" on the platform.

The video, posted on March 7, shows Diskin sitting on the sofa in pink pajamas drinking wine from a champagne glass and eating a selection of sushi.

The on-screen text says: "It's 7:33 pm. Your toddler is sleeping. Your hubby is out. Your skincare is done. You're in your cozy pjs and slippers. The sushi just arrived. The wine is poured and you're about to binge watch feel good TV until you fall asleep on the couch. This is my ultimate solo mom night in."

Newsweek reached out to @saridiskin for comment. We could not verify the details of the case.

Newsweek discussed the video, which had one million views at the time of writing, with Ana Aznar, a child psychologist and the founder of Rec Parenting, an online platform supporting parents and caregivers.

She said: "When mothers don't take care of themselves, they are at risk of experiencing burnout, depression and of losing themselves. Self-care is more than alone time, a bubble bath and a pedicure.

"It is acknowledging that you are more than a mum, a partner or a professional, and that your needs also matter. Self-care should focus on understanding the stressors that you have in your life and finding the strategies that will help you manage the stress."

Aznar explained the importance of "me time" and why moms shouldn't be sorry for doing something they enjoy.

"Me time or alone time is really important for mothers because it is a form of self-care. Many mothers feel guilty when they take any time for themselves, but they must realize that in order to take care of their children, they must feel psychologically and physically strong. Me time doesn't mean that they are selfish or a bad mother. Self-care is indeed child care," she said.

Since Diskin posted the video on March 7, it has received 63,400 likes and more than 1,000 comments.

"THE BEST. Adding a clean house would put it over the top," one user wrote.

Another said, "Me every time my husband goes out of town, haha!"

"I've never cherish[ed] my alone time at night more then being a toddler mom lol," a commenter added.

One user said, "Baby is 7 months and i cant imagine this relaxing moment in my future."

"I need this so bad [right now]," another wrote.

In the comments, Diskin told another user that not all nights were perfect, and that she sometimes wound up falling asleep with the toddler.

To have a relaxing evening at home like Diskin, follow these steps:

  1. Get your toddler to sleep early.
  2. Send your partner out.
  3. Apply skincare.
  4. Put on your comfiest pj's.
  5. Order your favorite food.
  6. Pour a glass of wine.
  7. Binge-watch your favorite show.
