Pokémon Go's Halloween event is in full swing, and players all around the world are working their way toward completing the Special Research tasks. But, if you haven't gotten started yet, then this guide will help you figure out what you need to do so you can complete all the tasks and take home all the rewards.
If you're just jumping into the Pokémon Go Halloween event, then you'll be sad to know that the first part of the event is now over. However, Niantic is keeping the fun going, and a second part just kicked off Thursday. That part of the event will run until November 1, so you've got a few days to jump in and earn as much candy as possible by completing tasks.
There are a number of Special Research tasks available, but for the purpose of this guide, we'll only be focusing on the tasks needed to complete the unpaid research. For this event, you'll need to complete the Mysterious Masks Special Research Tasks, which will reward you with several things. These main tasks are broken down into four primary parts, each of which has been outlined below.
Step 1 of Mysterious Masks
- Catch 40 ghost-type Pokémon
- Make 9 curveball throws
- Make 49 nice throws
Rewards: Galarian Yamask encounter, 490 Stardust, 4,900 XP.
Step 2 of Mysterious Masks
- Catch 40 ghost-type Pokémon
- Earn 9 hearts with your buddy
- Send 13 gifts to friends
Rewards: Galarian Yamask encounter, 490 Stardust, 4,900 XP.
Step 3 of Mysterious Masks
- Catch 40 ghost-type Pokémon
- Catch 9 different species of ghost-type Pokémon
- Use 49 berries to help catch Pokémon

Pokémon Go will also offer several timed research tasks that you can take on throughout the event; however, they require that you pay for certain tickets to unlock them. While many will indeed want to take part in those events, you can find out more details about those on the official Pokémon Go website.
