Can I Change My Pokemon's Tera Type in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet?

Tera Types are a new mechanic added to the Pokemon that you can catch in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet. While being able to terastalize your Pokemon is fun and a great way to do better in battle, having the correct Tera Type can make or break a Pokemon.

That's why being able to change your Tera Type has become one of the main goals for many trainers in both Scarlet and Violet. But, changing your Pokemon's Tera Type isn't exactly easy, and if you don't know what you're doing, you could very well end up spending hours trying to catch the perfect Pokemon with the perfect Tera Type.

Instead, all you need to do is make use of the Tera Shards found within Pokemon Scarlet and Violet. Here's everything you need to know to change your Pokemon's Tera Type in the latest games.

Terastallizing Pokemon can be key to winning some tough battles in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet. But, if you don't have a good Tera Type for your Pokemon, then you won't be able to take advantage of its most powerful attacks and abilities. That is why changing your Tera Type can completely change how a Pokemon plays in battle.

To change your Tera Type, you're going to need to gather an item called Tera Shards from around the game. These items can be found all around by defeating Pokemon that are Terastillized, or by taking part in the various Tera Raids found around Paldea. Obviously, these types of Tera Shards come in the different types of Pokemon you can find, including Dark, Water, Fighting, Electric, and so on down the list.

Gathering 50 of these Tera Shards and then taking them to the Treasure Eatery Restaurant in Medali will allow you to cook up a special dish by the chef at the restaurant. The dish can then be fed to a Pokemon of your choice to change its Tera Type into whatever you want.

So, if you want to turn an Eevee that has a Normal Tera Type into a Grass Tera Type to go along with the Grass moves that Leafeon might use, then you can absolutely do that.

Just keep in mind that you can only make use of this feature by completing the Medali Gym, which is part of the Victory Road storyline that sees players striving to become a Pokemon Champion. Further, before changing a Pokemon's Tera Type, it's recommended to level it up and even evolve it into the Pokemon that you plan to use, as some evolutions introduce new moves and sub-types to Pokemon.
