Pokemon Scarlet and Violet: Where to Catch Larvitar

Pokemon is all about catching tons of Pokemon, training to become the best Pokemon Trainer, and just having fun. And what better way to increase the amount of fun you're having than to catch the earliest evolution of one of the best pseudo-legendary Pokemon available in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet.

In this article, you'll learn how to catch Larvitar, which is the first evolution of a pseudo-legendary Rock/Dark-type Pokemon known as Tyranitar.

Larvitar (and its subsequent evolutions) were first introduced to the franchise in Generation Two. Now, years later, players have yet another chance to add this Pokemon to their party, and you can do it very early on in the game.

Where to Catch Larvitar

As noted above, you can catch Larvitar very early on in Pokemon Scarlet. However, because this Pokemon is a version-exclusive to Scarlet, you won't be able to find it roaming your world in Pokemon Violet. Instead, Violet players will be able to find and catch Bagon, another iconic Pokemon that evolves into a pseudo-legendary Pokemon.

To find Larvitar, you're going to want to make your way over toward South Province Area Five, which is just northeast of Los Platos, the first little town that you visit in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet. Much like its Violet opposite, Larvitar can be found roaming around this area quite frequently.

This, of course, isn't the only area to catch this iconic Pokemon, but if you'd like to add it to your party early on, this is one of the best places to look.

How to Evolve Larvitar

Once you've caught your first Larvitar, you can add it to your party and start evolving it. Luckily, this Pokemon doesn't require any special items to evolve it. Instead, you'll just need to reach Level 30, at which point it will evolve into a Pupitar.

From there, continue leveling up this Pokemon to evolve it into a Tyranitar at Level 55. At this point, you've basically unlocked a pseudo-legendary Pokemon, making your party very powerful.

Having such a powerful Pokemon can come in handy, especially if you're looking to complete the Victory Road story in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet. Of course, as noted, this Pokemon can only be caught in Pokemon Scarlet. Players making their way through Pokemon Violet will need to trade with a Scarlet player to add it to their party and unlock its PokeDex entry.
