Pokemon Scarlet and Violet: What is A Pseudo-Legendary?

Pseudo-legendary Pokemon, like their Legendary brethren, are some of the most powerful Pokemon you can find. You'll find them in every game from Pokemon Red and Blue to Pokemon Scarlet and Violet. But what is a pseudo-legendary Pokemon? Read on for the answers and how to tell when you've found one.

What are pseudo-legendary Pokemon?

A pseudo-legendary Pokemon is an unofficial term coined by fans. It refers to Pokemon that have three things:

  • A three-stage evolution line
  • Base stat of exactly 600 before Mega Evolution
  • 1,250,000 experience at level 100

Sometimes, pseudo-legendary Pokemon are more powerful opponents to face than Legendary Pokemon because they have extremely high stats, which gives them more of a kick in battle.

These monsters are all examples of pseudo-legendary Pokemon:

  • Dragonite
  • Tyranitar
  • Salamence
  • Metagross
  • Garchomp
  • Hydreigon
  • Goodra
  • Kommo-o
  • Dragapult
  • Baxcalibur

The list of pseudo-legendary Pokemon is short, but adding these monsters to your arsenal in-game could make you a powerhouse of a trainer when you know what you're looking for.

Pseudo-legendary Pokemon in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet

There are eight pseudo-legendary Pokemon in Scarlet and Violet. Only one is a new Pokemon that's been added to the games, with the rest of the pseudo-legendary Pokemon filling the ranks made up of monsters from previous games. You're only able to capture six per game, however. To capture them all, you'll need both games or friends with the other version. You can utilize the trading features in the latest games, too.

Pokemon Violet

You'll notice two excluded Pokemon from the list above: both Kommo-o and Metagross, neither of which are in Pokemon Scarlet or Violet, so you won't have to worry about capturing them.

Otherwise, you'll be able to capture the rest of the group and use them to your advantage. There are already other Legendary Pokemon in the games, and you'll be able to make a stronger, multi-faceted team using these powerful monsters at your disposal.

As more and more Pokemon are revealed, it's possible we may see new pseudo-legendary Pokemon to add to the list. Right now, however, this is a complete listing of what you can expect to find.

Pokemon Scarlet and Violet are available now exclusively on Nintendo Switch.
