PlayStation VR2 Preorder Guide: Price and Release Date

Sony has finally completely unveiled the PlayStation VR2 (PSVR2), and the next generation of PlayStation's virtual reality headset is arriving a lot sooner than many expected. The new headset, which will work with the PlayStation 5, is set to launch in February and will retail for $549.99.

PlayStation said that one of the biggest plans with the PS VR2 headset is to increase the level of immersion that players feel, and it believes that this newest iteration of the PlayStation VR headset will do just that.

On the surface level, the headset looks very similar to the Oculus Quest 2, which recently saw a price hike as Meta continues to push its idea of the metaverse. With the pricing of the PS VR2 now revealed, virtual reality fans will find that the pricing of PlayStation's headset and the pricing of the Quest 2 are very close, though the PS VR2 will obviously require the use of a PlayStation 5 console to use it.

While PS VR2 isn't expected to launch until February 22, 2023, virtual reality fans looking to secure their headset will be able to preorder the PlayStation VR2 starting on November 15. That's just a few days from now, which should give you plenty of lead-up to the device's actual release.

On top of offering different a base headset option, the PlayStation VR2 will also be available for preorder in a single bundle. The PlayStation VR2 Horizon Cal lof the Mountain Bundle will retail for $599.99 / €649.99 / £569.99 / ¥79,980, including tax, and will come with the PS VR2 headset, the PS VR2 Sense controllers, as well as a pair of stereo headphones.

Those who don't want the bundle can purchase the headset and controllers separately, and PlayStation will also offer the PlayStation VR2 Sense controller charging station for those who want to be able to wirelessly charge their controllers.

Overall, the PlayStation VR2 looks to offer quite a bit of an upgrade over the original PlayStation VR headset that was released on PlayStation 4. The full specs of the device can be viewed in the PlayStation Blog's breakdown of the news, and users looking to preorder can do so later in the month.

PlayStation also noted that standalone titles for the upcoming headset will be available for preorder as well, though more details on those bundles will come at a later time. Gamers can also register for preorders early, for a higher chance of being able to preorder one of the new VR headsets when it releases.
