Full List of Public Figures Defending Susan Sarandon

Since actor Susan Sarandon was dropped from her talent agency after her comments at a recent pro-Palestinian rally, a variety of public figures have come out in her defense.

Hamas launched a surprise attack on southern Israel on October 7. Israel subsequently launched its heaviest-ever airstrikes on Gaza, followed by extensive ground operations.

According to Israeli officials, at least 1,200 people have been killed in Israel, with more than 200 people taken hostage, the Associated Press reported. More than 12,700 Palestinians have been killed, with many more injured and over 1.5 million internally displaced in Gaza, according to officials from the health ministry in Gaza, the AP said.

Sarandon has been vocal about her support of Palestine both online and in person. On November 4, Sarandon reposted a photo of herself to X, formerly Twitter, on stage at the #March4Palestine protest in Washington, D.C.

"You don't have to be Palestinian to care about what's happening in Gaza," she wrote alongside the snap with members of the Palestinian Feminist Collective. "I stand with Palestine. No one is free until everyone is free."

On November 17 thousands of people took to the streets in New York City as pro-Palestinian demonstrators held banners and signs demanding a cease-fire in Gaza. At the rally, Sarandon said: "There are a lot of people afraid of being Jewish at this time, and are getting a taste of what it feels like to be a Muslim in this country."

On Tuesday, the Oscar-winner was dropped by United Talent Agency (UTA), a spokesperson confirmed to Newsweek.

Some people on X supported the agency's decision, with one calling the actor a "confused soul."

"Susan Sarandon makes bigoted remark at rally, suggests Jews haven't been mistreated in America, are now "getting a taste" of what it's like to be Muslim, disgustingly pitting Jews and Muslims against each other. FOX responds by erasing Islamophobia. Save us from all these people," another person wrote.

A different commenter said: "Susan Sarandon wasn't 'fired' or 'canceled' by her agency. Her agency doesn't pay her or employ her. Agents are employees of their clients. Separating from her was costly. Sarandon's agency quit her employ because it could not countenance what she was saying. That's principled."

However, a variety of public figures have taken to X to share their support for the 77-year-old actor.

Lee Camp

Camp is a comedian, writer, podcaster, news journalist and commentator. Both he and Sarandon attended a rally against the Dakota Access Pipeline on August 24, 2016.

"Susan Sarandon is one of the most principled, courageous, and bold people I know," he wrote. "She's always on the right side of history and she always stands up for the oppressed. Keep fighting, Susan."

Cornel West

Political activist and social critic Cornel West has also regularly spoken out against the ongoing Israel-Hamas War. Previously speaking at a pro-Palestine rally in front of the U.N. headquarters in New York, he called for a ceasefire in Gaza "amidst the overwhelming barbarity."

He posted to X: "I stand in deep solidarity with my dear sister Susan Sarandon. I salute her courage and compassion!"

Robin Monotti Graziadei

The Italian architect and film producer shared a screenshot of the news Sarandon had been dropped by her talent agency alongside a screenshot of the definition of the word denial.

"In the denial stage of Genocide, witnesses are intimidated. #SusanSarandon #Gaza," he wrote.

Nina Turner

Turner is an activist and a former Ohio State Senator who often posts about the ongoing Israel-Hamas conflict. She previously wrote on X: "Palestinian people are human beings that deserve to live in peace. Israeli people are human beings that deserve to live in peace. Peace cannot happen if Israel is bombing and killing innocent Palestinians. Peace cannot happen if Hamas is killing innocent Israelis."

She also took to social media to throw her support behind Sarandon, posting: "Solidarity with@SusanSarandon✊🏾."

Mohamad Safa

Safa, of the United Nations ECOSOC—an international non-governmental organization—, posted to X: "I stand in deep solidarity with my dear sister. I salute your courage and compassion!

"Susan Sarandon has been dropped by her talent agency UTA after being vocal about the ongoing genocide happening in Palestine at a pro-Palestinian rally."

Zoë Rose Bryant

The film festival programmer called for other actors and celebrities to stand up for Sarandon.

She wrote: "Every single artist should be showing support for Susan Sarandon and melissa barrera today, or this will just be the beginning of the new Hollywood blacklist."

Mexican actress Barrera was fired from the Scream franchise over her stance on the Israel-Hamas conflict.

Briahna Joy Gray

Gray is a political commentator, lawyer, and political consultant who served as the National Press Secretary for the Bernie Sanders 2020 presidential campaign. She took to social media to express her disgust at UTA for dropping Sarandon.

"Susan Sarandon is a deeply principled, brave, talented person, and time will humiliate her detractors," she said. "This is a vile, disgusting move by UTA, who should be nothing but grateful to represent her."

Aaron Maté

The journalist and host of the podcast Pushback with Aaron Maté has also been vocal about his support for Palestine on social media. In support of Sarandon, he wrote: "Solidarity with @SusanSarandon."
