Season 2 of Power Book III: Raising Kanan is still airing at the time of writing, but creator Sascha Penn confirmed that production on the third installment has already begun.

On August 22, Penn posted a picture on Instagram of a giant McDonald's cup along with the caption: "Today is the first day of production on the third season of Raising Kanan. We're back at it! #raisingkananstarz #raisingkanan #powerstarz #lionsgate."

What Will Power Book III: Raising Kanan Season 3 Be About?

Raising Kanan Omar Epps
Omar Epps' character, Malcolm Howard, has been at the center of one of the major storylines on 'Raising Kanan' Season 2. Starz

The specific plot details of Season 3 are not yet known, and no doubt they will hinge on the events of the rest of Season 2.

At the end of Season 1 of Raising Kanan, Detective Malcolm Howard (played by Omar Epps) was revealed to still be alive after Kanan shot him.

Kanan, who at the time did not know that Howard is actually his father, was ordered to kill the detective by his own mother Raq, after she became worried that her secret (Kanan's paternity) was going to be revealed.

She also managed to frame her rival, fellow drug dealer Unique, played by rapper Joey Bada$$, in the process, leaving her as the biggest drug dealer in New York City.

Season 2 has explored the fallout of this situation—specifically the changed relationship between Raq and Kanan—so Season 3 could see the aftermath play out even more as Kanan continues his journey towards the character that fans love to hate from Power.

Raising Kanan Miller and Curtis
Season 2 of 'Raising Kanan' has also explored the fractured relationship between Raq and Kanan. Starz

Speaking to Newsweek ahead of the Season 2 premiere in August, Kanan actor Curtis said of Raq and Kanan's relationship: "It's fractured, [it's] rocky, it's tumultuous. It's in a rebuilding phase I guess you could call it. It's uncharted territory for each of them in [their own] personal respects."

"You watch this woman try to navigate this relationship, to get back in with her son, but also bring him on as an employee. She's going to do whatever she needs to do to keep Kanan [close]," Miller added of her character's Season 2 journey.

Power Book III: Raising Kanan Season 2 continues Sundays at 9 p.m. ET on Starz.
