Ronna McDaniel Faces 'Ambush' at RNC Meeting

The Republican National Committee (RNC) chair Ronna McDaniel will face an ambush at an RNC winter meeting amid continued criticism, conservative commentator Laura Loomer has said.

McDaniel, who has served as the RNC chair since 2017, has been criticized for the Republicans losing a number of elections since 2020 and because of the GOP's funding issues. Newsweek contacted the RNC via its website on Tuesday to comment on this story.

At the end of November, the GOP governing body reported its lowest bank balance at that point in any year since 2016, disclosures to the Federal Election Commission (FEC) revealed Wednesday. With $9.96 million in spending money, the RNC had less than half the $21.35 million it reported in 2016, after Donald Trump won the presidential election.

Speaking about former President Donald Trump's once chief strategist Steve Bannon and MyPillow CEO Mike Lindell, Loomer, a Trump supporter and political activist, said: "Ronna McDaniel is about to walk into a grass-roots ambush in Las Vegas, Nevada, where they are gathering for the RNC winter meeting starting tomorrow."

Loomer previously criticized McDaniel for not standing with Trump during the Iowa caucus earlier in the month. McDaniel and the RNC faced immense pressure to use the group's finances to back the former president after he won the first Republican primary vote by a landslide.

Social-media users frequently call on McDaniel to resign when she posts on X, formerly Twitter.

"My county is going to flip to blue if we can't get control," Maria Holiday, chair of the Republican Party in Johnson County, Kansas, told Politico as hundreds of Republican officials gathered in a casino ballroom Monday ahead of the winter meeting.

"And I don't see any effective strategies coming out of the RNC down to the grassroots, and that's where the people are going to vote... We're on our own," Holiday said.

NBC News has reported that those seeking to challenge McDaniel are Harmeet Dhillon, an RNC member from California who leads the Republican National Lawyers Association, and Lindell. The outlet said she has the public backing of more than 100 RNC members, so is likely to keep her position in a secret ballot vote during the meeting.
