Splatoon 3: Pokémon Splatfest Winner

Nintendo recently hosted an event for Splatoon 3, giving both Pokémon and Splatoon fans a chance to jump into the game and show off their skills to help vote for the best starter Pokémon in the game. Splatfests have been a mainstay in the Splatoon series for years, and this latest Splatfest looked to address a very important question: What is the best type of starter Pokémon?

For those who don't spend much time playing Pokémon, starters are basically the very first Pokémon you encounter in the game. They're the Pokémon that you begin your journey with—and for many, also the Pokémon that you end your journey with. That's because somewhere along the way, you start to connect to these little creatures you keep throwing into battle.

Anyway, with the latest Splatfest, Nintendo wanted to pose the very important question of which starter Pokémon type is the best. The options on the table were Fire-type, Water-type and Grass-type. Now that all the Splatfest votes are in, here is the winner.

After a harrowing few days of constant back-and-forth battles, the latest Splatoon x Pokémon Splatfest has called Team Water the winner of the event. That means, according to the crossover, the Water-type starter Pokémon, like those found in the coming Pokémon Scarlet and Violet.

What is even more intriguing about this win, though, is that according to the official Splatoon Twitter account, Team Water managed to win the event with a flawless score of 45P to the 0P of both Team Fire and Team Grass. Of course, none of that is really going to matter once Pokémon Scarlet and Violet releases on Friday, as players will be jumping in and trying out the newest starter Pokémon that the series has to offer.

This newest Splatfest did introduce some nice new game modes to Splatoon 3, though, including a three-way Turf War, which many are hopeful will make a return in the series somewhere down the line. And, because we saw a crossover between Pokémon and Splatoon, many are hopeful we'll see some kind of crossover event or items making an appearance in both Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet, too. Of course, that remains to be seen.

For now, players can at least rest assured knowing that such a longstanding question has been answered, at least to some degree. Whether you agree with that answer or not, though, is an entirely different matter.
