Taylor Swift Slammed for 'Ignoring' Celine Dion at Grammys

Some music fans think Taylor Swift snubbed Celine Dion at the Grammys, after the legendary singer made a surprise appearance at the awards show amid her chronic health battle.

Dion, who has been battling Stiff-Person Syndrome (SPS) and stepped back from the limelight, shocked everyone when she appeared onstage with the support of her son Rene-Charles Angelil, 23, at Sunday's Grammy Awards.

She was there to present Album of the Year and told the audience, who gave her a standing ovation, what a momentous moment it was for her.

"Thank you, all. I love you right back. You look beautiful," she began. "When I say I'm happy to be here, I really mean it from my heart.

"Those who have been blessed enough to be here at the Grammy Awards must never take for granted the tremendous love and joy that music brings to our lives and to people all around the world.

"And now it gives me great joy to present a Grammy Award that two legends, Diana Ross and Sting, presented to me 27 years ago. These are the outstanding nominees for album of the year."

Dion announced Swift as the winner for her album, Midnights. Swift made history in that moment by becoming the first person to win Album of the Year four times.

But it was what Swift did when she got to the stage that sent people into a frenzy. Some claimed the singer snubbed Dion by not acknowledging her properly when accepting the award from her.

"Taylor Swift just took the album of the year trophy from Celine Dion without batting an eye and/or acknowledging that a legendary 🐐 was handing her the award. So cringey for my soul," complained one person on X, formerly Twitter.

Another said: "Taylor not even acknowledging Celine Dion is not sitting right with my spirit. Girl, that is CELINE DION."

And a third wrote: "not trying to be hater but being handed a Grammy by Celine Dion in her very triumphant first public appearance in a long time and barely making eye contact insane."

However, many others were quick to point out Swift posed for photos later with Dion and that she had applauded happily when Dion walked out on stage.

"Did Taylor Swift disrespect or snub Celine Dion? No," wrote one fan on X defending Swift. "Was she clearly distracted by someone behind her at the exact moment Celine Dion handed her the award? 100000%. Stop overanalyzing her every move looking for proof that she should be hated because you already don't like her."

Earlier in the night, Swift sent fans into a frenzy during her acceptance speech for Best Pop Vocal Performance when she revealed she was releasing a new album on April 19.

"OK this is my 13th Grammy. Which is my lucky number… if I've ever told you that," she began. "I know that the way the Recording Academy voted is a direct reflection of the passion from the fans. So I want to say thank you to the fans by telling you a secret that I have been keeping from you for the last two years.

"Which is that my brand new album comes out April 19. It's called The Tortured Poets Department, I'm going to go and post the cover right now backstage. Thank you, I love you."

The Tortured Poets Department is available to pre-order in a number of different packages from limited edition vinyl to cassettes and CDs.

Dion was diagnosed with the rare neurological disorder SPS, which affects roughly one in a million people, in December 2022. The progressive autoimmune condition causes muscle stiffness and pain spasms, and usually begins in a person's torso before developing in the arms and legs. The severity of the condition can fluctuate and it often co-occurs with other autoimmune diseases.

Dion postponed the remainder of her 2023 and 2024 Courage world tour dates because of the illness, eventually canceling the tour altogether in May last year.
