Taylor Swift's Necklace Detail at Grammy's Raises Eyebrows

Taylor Swift's necklace at Sunday's Grammy Awards has sparked questions across social media as users have pointed out the necklace resembles a "doomsday clock."

Sunday was a big night for Swift, as she won Album of the Year for the fourth time for her record-breaking Midnights album and dropped the announcement that she would be releasing a new album when accepting the award for Best Pop Vocal Performance, her 13th Grammy win.

However, much like every other recent major event that Swift attends, all eyes have been on her as fans are known to rush to social media to hunt down all the "easter eggs" over her appearances.

Amid Sunday's award show, Swift wore a black bedazzled choker necklace featuring a watch face set at one minute to midnight, a detail some have noted is a nod to a doomsday clock.

Newsweek has contacted a representative of Swift via email for comment.

Created by the Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists and in existence since 1947, the doomsday clock has become a global visual representation of the various potential calamities that can hinder both humanity and the world at large.

In late January, the Doomsday Clock was officially reset and remained at 90 seconds to midnight, as the time of midnight is "apocalypse" imagery, according to the clock's creators, used to "convey threats to humanity and the planet."

In a post on X, formerly Twitter, user, JacobIsrael71 noted Swift's necklace and the coincidence of the number 13 writing, "Taylor Swift wins Best Pop Vocal Album Reminds everyone it's her 13th Grammy—her Super Bowl Appearance will be her 13th game—13 is her Favorite number ... and her necklace on the red carpet mirrored the doomsday clock 1 minute to midnight"

Meanwhile, X user The Eras Tour shared a video of Swift on the red carpet asking a member of her team if she needs to set her watch, seemingly referring to her necklace.

"Taylor Swift panics to ensure her clock necklace is perfectly set to midnights before entering the 2024"

However, others such as X user MlogicGr8Again believe Swift is making a political statement with the necklace, writing, "When you zoom in on Taylor Swift's clock, it's clearly set to at 1 minute to midnight. TSwift is clearly referencing the Doomsday Clock, and telling her people we need to stop endless war."

The interest comes as in January 2023, months into the Russia-Ukraine war, the clock setting bucked conventionality and ushered in a new era of caution when it was set to 90 seconds to midnight—the "closest to global catastrophe it had ever been," as set by those on the Bulletin, composed of a select group of globally recognized leaders who focus specifically on nuclear threats, climate change and disruptive technologies.

Although Swift has not made any statements regarding the necklace, this is not the first time the Grammy award winner's fashion has made fans believe she uses symbolism in her choices of attire.
