Tom Brady 'LFG' Meaning as Tampa Bay Buccaneers QB Unretires

Tom Brady's unretirement announcement left some confused as the Tampa Bay Buccaneer quarterback closed his message with the phrase "LFG."

On Sunday night, the seven-time Super Bowl champion said he would be returning for another season and insisted he felt his place was on the field.

Brady's announcement comes less than two months after he announced he would be retiring from the National Football League (NFL) after 22 seasons.

On February 1, Brady said in an Instagram post that he would not be making "that competitive commitment anymore" and would use the time to focus on other things.

"These past two months I've realized my place is still on the field and not in the stands. That time will come. But it's not now," Brady wrote on Twitter in his unretirement message on Sunday.

"I love my teammates, and I love my supportive family. They make it all possible. I'm coming back for my 23rd season in Tampa. Unfinished business LFG."

The "LFG" portion of his message left some questioning what these words signify.

LFG is the common abbreviation for "Let's f***ing go" and is used in sporting, gaming and internet communities, according to a How To Geek report.

Definitions on Urban Dictionary also highlight that the use of "LFG" in a sporting context should not be confused with "Looking for group," a term occasionally used in online multiplayer games.

Following Brady's announcement, many fans took to Twitter to show their joy by simply writing "LFG" in support, including the Tampa Bay Buccaneers head coach, Bruce Arians.

Arians also shared a tweet of the Buccaneer's Twitter page that highlighted his and Jason Licht's, the team's general manager, response to the news Brady would be returning.

"We are thrilled that Tom has decided to come back this season," Licht said regarding Brady's announcement.

"We said we would leave all options open for him should he reconsider his retirement and today's announcement is something we have been preparing for in recent days.

"Bruce and I have had plenty of conversations with Tom recently that led us to believe there was a realistic chance he would want to come back. Tom is the greatest quarterback of all time who is still playing at an elite level.

"With this decision now made, we will continue to move forward with our offseason plans to reload this roster for another championship run."

Issuing similar praise, Arians commended Brady for his determination to winning another championship.

"Tom Brady loves to play football as much as anyone I have ever been around," Arians said.

"As Tom said, his place right now is on the football field. He is still playing at a championship level and was as productive as anyone in the league last season. We are ecstatic that he decided to continue playing and working toward winning another championship."
