Watch Phillies Fan Getting Tackled by World Series Security in Viral Video

Footage has gone viral of an overzealous Philadelphia Phillies fan at Thursday night's World Series game getting pulled down from the outfield wall and tackled hard by security personnel.

The fan ran onto the field at Citizens Bank Ballpark—where the Phillies were hosting Game 5 of the World Series against the Houston Astros—during the top of the sixth inning. He quickly tried to scale the wall in the outfield to escape into the stands, but members of the security crew promptly pulled him down. The fan was soon planted onto the ground by security.

Several videos of the incident that have been shared on Twitter have since gone viral. One video of the incident posted by user @realJoshBrownie has amassed more than 490,000 views as of Friday morning.

"Paying $1000 to get arrested. Seems smart. Also enjoy the night in jail and thousands more in fees," a user wrote in the video's comment section.

John Clark, a sports reporter for Philadelphia's NBC affiliate station WCAU, also posted a video of the moment from a different angle.

"How did this fan get on the field?" Clark asked in the caption. "Phillies fans chanting A******"

One person in Clark's comments section wrote the fan getting tackled was "the most interesting thing that's happened in this game."

Meanwhile, other comments on Twitter indicated that fans watching at home didn't catch the disruption because the broadcast cut away from the scene.

"Thank you for showing this. The television wasn't showing I wanted to know what happened," said one person about Clark's post.

The Astros were leading the Phillies 2-1 during the fan's ill-advised trip to the field. Houston went on to win the game by a score of 3-2. The Astros now lead the series by three victories to the Phillies' two. The teams will meet again Saturday in Houston for Game 6.

Though the fan's hijinks captured the attention of many people, Houston fans were celebrating the victory, as well as the performance of Astros pitcher Justin Verlander, who notched his first World Series win.

In eight previous World Series starts, Verlander had a record of 0-6. On Thursday, he allowed just one run in five innings and pitched to pick up his first Fall Classic "W."

"I can say I got one," Verlander said in a post-game interview on the MLB Network. "It was one of the best feelings in my career. I just truly love these guys. I love this team."

Newsweek reached out to the Philadelphia Phillies for comment on the fan incident.
