Woman Who Cut Off Her Boss's Penis Held Without Bail After Court Rejects Version of Events

A woman who reportedly cut off the penis of her boss at a bar located near Barcelona will be sent to prison without bail after the court rejected her version of events, in which she claimed that she attacked her employer after he attempted to sexually assault her.

The woman was arrested on Monday by officers of the Mossos d'Esquadra, the local police department, after she allegedly cut off the man's penis while working a shift in a bar in Sant Andreu de la Barca.

She claimed that she acted in self-defense during the incident that occurred at just after midnight on Monday, and told the authorities that she cut off her employer's penis after he attempted to sexually assault her.

The unnamed woman also claimed to police that the man had forced her to have sex with him on multiple previous occasions.

The man, who owns the bar, was taken to the local Bellvitge University Hospital for an emergency operation to attempt to reattach his genitalia, after the police and emergency services were informed of the attack.

Following the incident, the woman was held at the regional police station in Martorell, while it was unclear if the man's emergency surgery was successful.

Catalan daily Ara reported that the police planned to question the man once he was well enough again and charge him with sexual assault, following the woman's claims.

But, on Thursday, the Superior Court of Justice of Catalonia (TSJC) announced that the woman would be temporarily sent to prison after the court rejected her claims, as it said that there were discrepancies between her account and the evidence found at the scene, according to Ara.

After examining the police's investigation into the incident, the court concluded that there was not enough evidence yet to support the woman's version of events, while questions were also raised when witnesses said that the pair lived together as a couple, according to Paudal.

The man was not formally detained at any point. The woman has been sent to prison without bail for a crime of serious injury with a dangerous instrument.

The claims presented by both the man and the woman and the evidence found at the scene will continue to be investigated to determine what happened during the incident.

Newsweek has contacted the Mossos d'Esquadra and the Superior Court of Justice of Catalonia for comment.
