Newly Engaged Woman Reveals Moment She Realized She's Acquired Siblings Too

When you marry, the old adage goes, you marry a family, too, but one woman is discovering this for the first time.

Her two new brothers have adopted her as one of their siblings in hilarious—and heartwarming—ways. A video posted to TikTok by Hailey Lynn (@professionalchitchatter) revealed a glimpse into their budding relationships, receiving viral attention. Since it was posted five days ago, her video has received over 955,000 likes and more than 2,500 comments. Lynn, 20, told Newsweek about the realization that her family has expanded with two brothers.

"When you get married to someone, you acquire their siblings... I didn't realize this was a thing, because I'm engaged and I just really wasn't thinking about it," Lynn said in the video. "I grew up with a sister and my fiancé has two brothers, and they've taken me on as like another one of their siblings somehow."

Lynn goes on to describe the things her new brothers—14 and 17 years old—do and say to her that signal a deep sibling familiarity, such as asking for her Apple Music log-in details or sending her Snapchats before school.

"It's seven in the morning," Lynn said. "Why are you sending me that?"

Lynn said she and her brothers-in-law live in different states, and that, despite not seeing her often, their greetings are a bit too confident: "Either one of them will come up to me and give me a hug and be like, 'Oh, hey,' and then they'll say something, like, 'Did you gain weight?'"

"I just got here, you haven't seen me in months, and that's how you're going to greet me?" Lynn said. "It's such a sibling thing."

Lynn said that, despite how their antics sound, they make her "feel very loved" and accepted.

"They are both very outgoing, kind, hilarious and extremely talented athletes," Lynn told Newsweek of her to-be-brothers. "I couldn't be more proud of all of their accomplishments... I can't imagine life without them."

While Lynn has never had brothers before, she did grow up with a younger sister.

"[She] has been my best friend since I can remember. She is smart, talented, and one of the most-loving individuals I've met," Lynn said.

While she and her new brothers don't have as many years together under their belt, they are already making lifelong memories: The two boys were there when Lynn's fiancé, Clayton, proposed.

"One of my favorite memories with my to-be-brothers was the day my fiancé proposed," Lynn said. "They are a huge hockey family. My to-be brothers and the rest of Clayton's family rented out the ice rink in their hometown over Christmas while we were visiting. The whole family went ice skating together and afterwards Clayton proposed."

Lynn said she feels "blessed" that her to-be husband's family are so excited to welcome her into their family.
