Kim Kardashian Slammed Over New Vehicle: 'Disgusting'

Kim Kardashian's latest vehicle is raising eyebrows online, with fans split over the reality star's new ride.

The 43-year-old shared a snap of her Tesla Cybertruck to her Instagram Stories on Tuesday.

"Cool Carpool Mom," Kardashian captioned the photo, with followers having plenty of thoughts about the American Horror Story actor's new wheels.

Billed as bulletproof with angular edges and a body made of stainless steel, the Cybertruck is a far cry from your standard pick-up truck.

Unveiled by Tesla CEO Elon Musk in November 2019, the electric vehicle has been the subject of both fascination and ridicule since day one.

Its unusual design was immediately compared to the DeLorean DMC-12, the iconic 1980s car made famous by Back to the Future. Tesla aficionados seemed to love the science fiction-esque styling, although other people failed to see the appeal.

It's unclear whether Kardashian was gifted the Cybertruck or if she purchased the vehicle herself. Nevertheless, the actress's apparent flaunting of it sparked mixed reactions on social media.

"Is this car or container?" asked @livessaving00 on X, formerly Twitter.

"She'll dump the CyTruck within a year," said Anton Wahlman.

"I just feel like if #KimKardashian is driving this, maybe, I need to be smarter with money!" wrote fellow Tesla owner @LovelyMatriarch.

"The entire family is disgusting," commented Emma Jean Kitty.

"To all you celebrities buying this stupid a** rust tank, I'm over you and it and what you're supposed to be supporting!" said D.Seals. "Sad."

However, other users were impressed, with @thfortravel dubbing her "the cool girl with the cool car."

"The Tesla is giving all it should give," said Sanni Maimunat.

"Kim K using Tesla's new cyber truck as her carpool car. That's the kinda wealthy I aspire to be" wrote @TROQUELL.

"Serves as a powerful endorsement for Tesla," said @IamRVSR. "The impact of celebrity influence cannot be overstated, especially when it comes to Kim Kardashian."

Newsweek has reached out to Kim Kardashian and Tesla for comment via email.

Kardashian already has a significant car collection. Including a custom Cadillac Escalade and a Lamborghini Urus, the socialite's fleet of vehicles is estimated to be worth $2.1 million.

At $79,990 to $96,390, depending on the model, the Cybertruck is not the most expensive of Kardashian's vehicles. Still, it's one of the most exclusive.

The vehicle sold out in January 2024 and won't be available again until 2027, although potential customers can put in a pre-order.

The Cybertruck was originally scheduled to hit the market in 2021, but was held back by a series of delays, reportedly due to handling, suspension and braking issues.

Customers could pre-order the vehicle almost immediately, but deliveries didn't begin until November 2023.

Since hitting the road, the Cybertruck has faced fresh backlash. Dubbed "rust-gate," some buyers claim the pick-up began rusting within days of delivery, despite its stainless steel construction, sharing images to social media.

Tesla engineer Wes Morrill hit back at the accusations on X, claiming the "rust" is actually "surface contamination" and sharing a YouTube video on how to remove marks from the truck.

A video of the Cybertruck struggling in the snow went viral in December, challenging advertising claims that the vehicle is "durable and rugged enough to go anywhere."

CEO Musk himself also came under fire in 2023, following alleged antisemitic comments he made on X.

The tech billionaire purchased the social network in 2022 and has been slammed for reportedly failing to curb hate speech on the platform, along with critics saying he was pushing the "great replacement" theory—a white nationalist conspiracy theory that claims minorities are attempting to culturally and ethically "replace" white people.

In November, watchdog Media Matters found that advertisements from major companies were appearing alongside white nationalist and antisemitic posts on X.

The furor led several big brands to pull their advertising from the platform, with Musk suing the organization for "misrepresentation of data, defamation, and potential fraudulent activity."
