Mom's DIY Christmas Tree With a Difference Delights Internet: 'So Creative'

A video of a Christmas tree built with a fully decorated interior space has gone viral on TikTok.

The clip was shared by Emma (@emmayeyah) and has had 34 million views since it was posted a week ago.

The footage shows a Christmas tree with sparkling lights and a small opening at the bottom. The camera enters the opening to reveal an intimate enclosure within the tree, complete with soft fur-like floor padding and Christmas-themed cushions.

A caption shared with the clip reads: "My besties mum is so creative." According to the post, TikTok user @deemcrae is the creator of this DIY "Christmas tree tent," which was built for her grandchildren to use.

The National Christmas Tree Association (NCTA) says the supply of real Christmas trees has been tight since 2016 and this remains the same this year. Due to the tight supply, some may want to opt for a non-traditional Christmas tree or even a DIY version, such as the one in the latest viral clip.

"Because supplies are tight you may need to look in different places to find a real tree. You should also be open to trying different types of trees," the NCTA advised.

The North American Christmas tree market is expected to grow from $1.33 billion in 2023 to $1.64 billion by 2028, according to a report by Mordor Intelligence, a market research company.

"A growing awareness of environmental sustainability among the millennials compared to artificial variants increased the demand for natural Christmas trees, which has augmented the sales of fresh-cut real Christmas trees in the region in recent years," the report said.

A clip shared in early December by @deemcrae shows a snapshot of the making of the tent. It appears to be made by using wood panels shaped into a pyramid to form the frame of the tree, with a circular wire frame at the base. The pyramid is later blanketed with Christmas tree branches and lights.

In a subsequent video shared by @deemcrae, the creator heads into the opening to reveal the tree's decorated interior space.

She says: "I am the nanna that built a Christmas tree tent for my grandchildren and I'm currently standing in the tree.

"Once built, we decorated the outside as you would any other tree," she said.
