Pokemon Scarlet and Violet: How to Breed and Hatch Pokemon Eggs

Breeding in the Pokemon franchise had seen little change since its introduction in the early generations of the series.

Now, though, The Pokemon Company has changed things up, and players will need to learn how to breed Pokemon a bit differently in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet.

Gone are the days of leaving your Pokemon at Daycare Centers and hoping for a Pokemon Egg.

Instead, Pokemon will leave their eggs for you in a different way. Here's what you need to know about breeding and hatching Pokemon Eggs in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet.

How to Breed Pokemon in 'Pokemon Scarlet and Violet'

To breed Pokemon in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, you're going to make use of the new picnic system. This system is unlocked after reaching the central city and unlocking the first traversal option for your legendary Pokemon.

Once done, you'll then be able to set up a picnic anywhere outside of town.

To start breeding Pokemon, you're going to want to first grab some sandwiches that increase the breeding rate of your Pokemon.

These can be made or purchased from the various sandwich shops located around Paldea. For example, Peanut Butter Sandwiches and Fruit Sandwiches can give you extra Egg Power.

Once you're ready to start breeding, you'll want to make sure you have both a male and female of the Pokemon that you want to breed. Add the two Pokemon to your party, and then begin a picnic. Now it's all about patience.

You can bathe, play with, and just lounge around with your Pokemon until they drop off a Pokemon Egg in the basket at the end of the table. Make sure to check the basket often to find the egg.

Once you have one Pokemon Egg, you can continue spending time with those Pokemon to acquire more eggs, too.

If you're having trouble acquiring a male and female Pokemon of the same species, you can also use a ditto as the other half when breeding, as it can transform into any Pokemon in Paldea.

How to Hatch a Pokemon Egg

Hatching eggs in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet is pretty much the same as it has always been. You'll need to equip the egg to your party, and then simply walk around. Just keep running, gliding, swimming, and moving around the world until your Pokemon Egg is ready to hatch.

Don't worry, you can't miss the hatching as the game automatically stops you when it happens.

You can use the breeding system in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet to obtain shinies of the starter pokemon, and you can even breed rare Pokemon for a chance to unlock additional evolutions and other details.

Those with version-exclusive Pokemon like Bagon or Larvitar can also breed them, allowing you to trade these Pokemon with your friends so you don't have to catch them again.
