What is the 1000th Pokemon? Everything We Know About Gholdengo

At long last, the 1000th Pokemon has been revealed. It's taken quite a while to get here, but now the Pokemon Pokedex has welcomed the latest monster into its fold, and it's called Gholdengo. The dual-type Steel/Ghost Pokemon made its debut in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, and it's a rather interesting addition to the rest of the Pocket Monsters available across all of the video games.

If you're interested in getting a Gholdengo of your own in Pokemon Scarlet or Pokemon Violet and aren't sure how, or if you just want to learn more about the newly-revealed Pokemon, we've got all the answers you need right here. Get ready to meet Gholdengo, who caps off the Pokedex at 1,000 Pokemon at last. It's been a long time coming, but we're finally here.

Gholdengo: The 1000th Pokemon

Gholdengo, known as the Coin Entity Pokemon, is a dual-type Steel/Ghost monster that made its debut in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet. It evolves from the Chest Form of the monster Gimmighoul.

It's a genderless Pokemon, does not lay eggs, and you cannot hatch it from an egg. Its appearance can be likened to a humanoid figure that's comprised of stacks of gold coins—1,000 of them, as its official Pokedex entry claims.

Its smooth appearance is interesting given that it's made out of coins, and it has three fingers on each hand as well as feet without toes. It wears a special belt with a diamond buckle and chest as a nod to Gimmighoul, its earlier evolution. There's no mistaking it, Gholdengo knows where it comes from and is giving props to its roots.

Pokemon Scarlet and Violet: Gholdengo
The 1000th Pokemon is named Gholdengo, and it's a humanoid figure with a gold exterior on what appears to be a surfboard. It can be obtained by giving Gimmighoul coins to a Gimmighoul. Nintendo

Gholdengo can make friends with anyone and is deadly in battle. It can toss gold coins at opponents with its Make It Rain move, an attack only Gholdengo can learn. It can also create a surfboard out of gold coins to move around on. Everything about this Pokemon is quite odd, from its makeup to the fact that it must evolve from its prior form by way of special Gimmighoul Coins.

If you want your own Gholdengo, you must first obtain a Gimmighoul. Defeat the chest form of the Gimmighoul to receive Gimmighoul Coins. Once you have 999 of them, you can level up your own Gimmighoul Pokemon and it will turn into a Gholdengo.

That's about all there is to know about this peculiar 1000th Pokemon, but as always, there's plenty more to explore in the Paldea region. Get out there with this gilded 'mon and see what you can find!

Pokemon Scarlet and Violet are available now exclusively on Nintendo Switch.
