Pokemon Scarlet and Violet: How to Get the Shiny Charm

Shiny Pokemon are fun but rare finds in the world of Pokemon Scarlet and Violet. They can be incredibly difficult to discover, but their rarity is part of what makes them such attractive finds. Shiny Pokemon come in special hues and paired with a fun battle animation when you use them against other monsters, and they're always great for bragging rights. But when you get one, you'll want to start collecting more.

There are several ways to find Shiny Pokemon, with many involving special sequences in-game where you do your best to increase catch chains by capturing multiple Pokemon or use exploits currently available in-game to speed up the process. None of these are completely sure to fast-track you on the road to being a Shiny Pokemon owner, but they do help.

However, there's one surefire item you can obtain in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet if you want to improve your odds of finding and subsequently capturing a Shiny Pokemon. It will help you much more in the end, and you'll be able to use it as an item across your shared Pokemon collection.

It's called the Shiny Charm, and it's an incredible boon when it comes to catching 'em all, at least where Shiny Pokemon are concerned. Need to know how to get the Shiny Charm? We've got your back, so read on for exactly how to snag your own.

How to Get the Shiny Charm in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet

To get the Shiny Charm, which will increase your odds of finding Shiny Pokemon, you'll have to tackle one quite arduous task: completing the Pokedex. There are around 400 Pokemon to capture, which won't make things easy for you. So if you want to do some Shiny hunting, you need to think about putting in the work to capture all of the Pokemon in their normal forms first.

That will obviously take some time and requires you to get monsters from both Scarlet and Violet games, but it is possible. Once you've completed your Pokedex, however, there's no challenge to picking up your Shiny Charm. Head to your academy's Biology Lab—Naranja Academy or Uva Academy—and find Jacq. He'll hand over the charm once you prove you've captured all 400 Pokemon.

From there, all you need to do is hand the Shiny Charm to a Pokemon in your active party and start exploring! You'll have increased odds of happening upon Shiny Pokemon, and you may very well capture a few. Happy hunting!

Pokemon Scarlet and Violet are available now exclusively on Nintendo Switch.
