All Pokemon You Need to Trade to Evolve in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet

Evolving most Pokemon in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet just requires players to level them up to a certain point. This is possible with all the starter Pokemon and even some of the Legendary Pokemon that you'll obtain throughout your time with the newest titles. But some Pokemon will be trickier to evolve, requiring you to trade them to another player before they can evolve.

In some past Pokemon games, an item called a Link Cable allowed players to evolve certain Pokemon without having to trade them to another player. In Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, though, you'll need to trade Pokemon directly with another player to trigger their evolutionary requirement. But which Pokemon does this affect? Here's what you need to know.

All Pokemon That Require Trades to Evolve

There are three primary Pokemon that require you to trade them in order to meet their evolutionary requirements. Further, you'll also need to make sure that some of these Pokemon are holding a specific item when trading them in order to trigger the Evolution. Here's a quick list of which Pokemon you'll need to trade to evolve them:

  • Haunter
  • Slowpoke
  • Scyther

Now that you have a basic idea of the Pokemon that need to be traded to evolve, let's talk specifics. For Haunter, you'll just need to trade the Pokemon to a buddy and then receive it back. When you do this, you'll be ready to evolve it into a Gengar, its final evolution.

To evolve a Slowpoke, though, you'll need to make sure that your Slowpoke is holding a King's Rock before trading it. When the trade finishes, you'll be able to evolve your Slowpoke into a Slowking.

Finally, to evolve Scyther, players will want to make sure that Scyther is holding onto a Metal Coat when trading it. Once the trade is completed, and you have the Pokemon back in your collection, you'll be able to evolve it into a Scizor.
